€300,000 funding boost for Clare sports clubs

FIVE Clare sports clubs will share more than €300,000 in Government funding to improve playing and training facilities, Clare Fine Gael General Election candidate Leonora Carey has confirmed.

The biggest allocation of €189,554 went to Parkville Soccer Club in Meelick for the provision of an astro turf playing pitch. The other recipients were Newmarket-on-Fergus Handball Club (€57,057); Kilrush Shamrocks GAA Club (€45,505); Naomh Eoin GAA Club (€8,357) and Bunratty/Cratloe Soccer Club (€5,127).

“This is the latest in a series of funding announcements for community and sporting organisations and it is good to see such a wide variety of clubs benefitting from Government support,” Ms Carey said.

“Our local clubs are at the heart of our communities and any help they receive is a great source of support to local teams and sportspeople and a boost for participation in sport.

“Active engagement in sports not only helps keep people healthy, but it also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building. It is crucial that we invest in sport for the overall wellbeing of our population and that is why this funding is so important.

“I will always advocate strongly for local voluntary organisations because of the invaluable contributions they make to the broader community and I look forward to seeing the improvements they make with this funding”, Ms Carey added.
