€50,000 for Clare Clubs to upgrade walking tracks
Kilrush Rugby Club and Tulla United Soccer Club have been allocated €25,000 each from the Healthy Ireland Walking Tracks initiative to upgrade their pitch-side walking paths and encourage physical activity in their local communities.
Confirming that the two Clare clubs were included among the 43 recipients of grants from a €1million fund set aside for the FAI and the IRFU, Clare Fine Gael General Election candidate Leonora Carey said the initiative has already delivered €1.6million in funding to GAA clubs.
“The scheme promotes increased physical activity among all ages by supporting clubs to upgrade walking tracks to improve accessibility for people with mobility issues such as older persons and wheelchair users,” she explained.
“Funding was allocated for a range of improvements, including the upgrading or the installation of lighting to prolong the hours of usage particularly during the dark winter evenings. Following a rigorous evaluation process, 21 clubs were approved for funding by the IRFU and 22 by the FAI with grants ranging from €10,000 to €50,000.
“I want to congratulate the Tulla and Kilrush clubs on their innovative proposals for track improvements and I encourage everyone to use their local club walking track and enjoy physical activity in a safe and accessible space,” Ms Carey added.
