€59,000 grant support for Clare Tidy Towns groups
CLARE Fine Gael General Election candidate Leonora Carey has confirmed that 47 Tidy Towns groups in Clare will be eligible to apply for a total of €59,000 in government grants next year.
The allocations, which are based on the population of each centre, will see 38 Clare groups qualifying for grants of €1,000 each. Sixmilebridge, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Kilrush, Killaloe, Kilkee, Ennistymon and Clarecastle are eligible for €2,000 each while Shannon qualifies for €3,000 and Ennis for €4,000.
“Clare performed extremely well once again in this year’s competition, which was recognised at the awards ceremony in Croke Park this week. Tidy Towns groups all over the county do such wonderful work to keep our towns and villages in great shape, and I am delighted to see this funding in recognition of that,” Ms Carey said.
“These groups showcase the positive impact of community spirit and volunteerism. This is evident each and every week as we see volunteers out and about early in the morning and late in the evenings, doing their bit to keep their area looking its best.
“We are so lucky to have volunteers who up their valuable time to their Tidy Towns groups, and without them, Clare communities would not continue to the vibrant, sustainable places that they are.
“Tidy Towns groups also make a significant contribution to driving biodiversity initiatives, building sustainable communities, and overall aiding in achieving our climate goals.
“Fine Gael is committed to building and supporting strong communities, and this funding is further evidence of that,” Ms Carey concluded.
